Computing

· Mr. Smith

We use Linux extensively, particularly the virtual terminal. This choice supports our goal of a simple, consistent, and distraction-free computing environment. Our primary tasks—writing, editing, and publishing—account for about 95% of our work. (Apologies for the rough estimate; it’s close enough.)

Occasionally, we handle calculations, project management, and email, but text work is our main focus. Quality text is central to an effective audio recording.

If you’re applying for an office internship or a production role, you’ll need to be comfortable with the command line. While Mac users may be familiar with the terminal, Windows users might not be. However, the terminal isn’t intimidating. Proficiency in touch typing and using a vi-like text editor are essential skills.

If I can find someone willing to train newcomers on the Linux terminal, I’d be happy to start some classes.
